About us
The Pro-Moskitia Foundation exists to assist Rev. Melesio Peter Espinoza PhD in his efforts to unify the fractured political and social environment of the indigenous people of the North Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua and Honduras. When it is safe to do so, the Foundation sponsors conferences, training and organizing work on the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua. When it is not safe to do so, the Foundation supports Rev. Melesio's work with the vast Miskitu diaspora in the United States, Panama, Costa Rica and Honduras.
The Pro-Moskitia Foundation has no staff and no budget. Most of its funds are raised as the need arises by the President of the Foundation from contacts in Central Texas and from social anthropology colleagues. The Directors reside in the United States, principally in Austin, Texas and Miami, Florida. The Secretary and the archives of the organization are located in Austin, Texas.
